Stich Passing Paris

Compiled From Wire Services

Michael Stich, who is retiring from tennis after this summer, will skip next week’s French Open and concentrate on preparing for Wimbledon, a title he won in 1991.

Stich is the fourth major name to withdraw from the French, joining Boris Becker, Andre Agassi and Jennifer Capriati.

Stich’s announcement came after he lost to Albert Costa 6-1, 6-3 at the World Team Cup.

Felix Mantilla clinched the best-of-3 match for Spain, defeating David Prinosil 6-2, 6-1. The match between Sweden and the Netherlands remained tied 1-1 when play was suspended overnight.
