Girl Dies After Swimming Accident

A Medford child died Friday of complications arising from a May 18 swimming pool accident.

Theresa Ortega, 5, died Friday afternoon, said Claudia Brown, spokeswoman for Legacy Emanuel Children’s Hospital.

She and Aryanna Keppal, 6, were pulled from the pool by Aryanna’s aunt, Amber Lee Howland. The girls were flown to Portland.

Aryanna was released from the hospital a short time later.

Relatives said both girls knew how to swim.
