Blaze In Metal Garbage Bin Causes Total Loss Of Warehouse
Investigators say a fire in a metal garbage bin caused the blaze that destroyed a warehouse Friday in Northeast Portland.
A statement from the Portland Fire Bureau said interviews with firefighters and other witnesses concluded that the fire began in the bin, which was filled with waste paper, and spread up a plastic garbage chute to the inside of the building.
Firefighters said the origin of the blaze is not considered suspicious. The building and its contents were listed as a total loss. Damage was put at $900,000.
