Hot Plate Fire Damages Browne’s Addition Apartment

From Staff And Wire Reports

The Franklin Apartments were evacuated Sunday night when an abandoned hot plate caught a dresser on fire.

Firefighters doused the fire in the third-floor apartment, which triggered the fire alarm in the six-story building at 704 W. 6th.

The fire caused smoke damage and a small amount of structural damage, said Gene Pehan, fire department battalion chief. The tenant was not in the apartment at the time of the fire.

The hot plate was left on top of the wooden dresser, which was ablaze when firefighters broke down the apartment door.

Tenants returned to their apartments after the fire was extinguished. , DataTimes
