Marlin will get a chance to avenge his only loss on turf this year when he challenges rival Sandpit in today’s $400,000 Hollywood Turf Handicap in Inglewood, Calif.

Marlin, who established himself as one of the country’s top turf horses with a win in Santa Anita’s San Juan Capistrano Invitational, was beaten by Sandpit in the San Marcos in January - his only loss in three grass starts this year.

Sandpit, an 8-year-old Brazilian-bred, is the defending Hollywood Turf champion. He has 13 victories in 34 career starts, with winnings of more than $3.3 million.

Desert King took the lead 300 yards from the finish and romped to a three-length victory in the Irish 2,000 Guineas in Dublin, Ireland. Verglas, a 33-1 shot, ran second and Romanov, beaten for the first time this year, was third.
