Mother Teresa In New York To Initiate Nuns

Mother Teresa has slipped quietly into New York to initiate a new group of nuns into her Missionaries of Charity.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner flew in from Rome on Monday and was greeted by two dozen nuns at Kennedy Airport. She blessed them and gave out medallions for nearly an hour before a waiting car took her to the Missionaries of Charity convent in the Bronx.

The 86-year-old nun appeared in good health after her flight. She became ill and asked for oxygen after flying to Rome from her base in India 10 days ago.

A successor, Sister Nirmala, was chosen in March to lead the order after Mother Teresa said she was too ill to lead it.
