Auditor Says College Employee Took Funds

From Staff And Wire Reports

A former employee of The Evergreen State College falsified documents and took $6,475 from student accounts at the school, the state auditor has found.

According to the audit released this week, the employee told college officials she took the money between July 1, 1996, and Feb. 15, 1997, while she worked in the student accounts section of the college’s accounting office. The student accounts section handles tuition and financial aid.

The audit found that the employee, whose identity has not been released because she has not been charged with a crime, falsified documents and had checks written and made payable to her mother. The college’s Police Services Division is investigating and will turn its findings over to the Thurston County prosecutor’s office, which will determine if any charges will be filed.

The auditor’s report does not discuss why the employee took the money.
