Future Of Nuclear Weapons Is Topic Of Talks
A Hanford watchdog group is sponsoring two meetings on the future of nuclear weapons production.
The Hanford Education Action League of Spokane is concerned about U.S. government plans to spend less on cleaning up Cold War bomb factories. At the same time, the U.S. Department of Energy is diverting funds into research and development for a new generation of nuclear weapons, said HEAL’s Debbie Dupey.
The speaker at the HEAL meetings is Beatrice Brailsford of the Snake River Alliance, a citizen group monitoring DOE activities at the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory in southwestern Idaho.
The HEAL meetings start tonight at the Spokane Public Library, 906 W. Main, Room 1B, from 7-9 p.m.
A second meeting is scheduled in Richland on Friday night at the Shiloh Inn’s Columbia Room, from 7-8:30.
