UI Hall Of Fame To Induct ‘59 Graduate

James E. Terrill, of Coeur d’Alene, was recently selected to receive the University of Idaho Hall of Fame Award for outstanding accomplishments in his field of endeavor.

Terrill, vice chairman of Jefferson Smurfit Corp. board of directors, completed a bachelor of arts degree in political science from UI in 1959 and became a Jefferson Smurfit employee when that company acquired Alton Packaging Corp., where he served as plant general manager in the container division and regional manager for the industrial packaging division.

In 1979 he was named vice president and general manager of the industrial packaging division for Jefferson Smurfit and was later named president of Smurfit Newsprint Corp. In 1994 he became executive vice president and chief executive officer, a position he held at retirement in 1994.

Several local students recently graduated with a bachelor of arts degree from Whitman College in Walla Walla. Students and their hometowns are listed.

Coeur d’Alene: Shaylen Garvey, an economics major and 1992 graduate of Coeur d’Alene High School; and Jennifer Hoover, a psychology major and 1993 graduate of Coeur d’Alene High School.

Sandpoint: Brian Hadley, a philosophy major and 1993 graduate of Sandpoint High School.

Local University of Idaho College of Law students have been selected to serve as staff for the Law Review. Students and their hometowns are listed.

Cocolalla: Nancy Luebbert, daughter of William and Nancy Luebbert.

Coeur d’Alene: Jeffrey Drake, son of Melvin and Judy Drake.

Moscow: Janet Briseno, daughter of Herman and Iva Hines; Paul Curtis, son of Guy and Sally AlLee; Jennifer Martin; Karen Oakes, daughter of William Oakes and Kay Cape; Terri Pickens; Scott Silvers, son of Thomas and Juanita Silvers; and Steven Staihar, son of Nick and Charlotte Staihar.
