College Students To Experience Nasa Academy This Summer

Two local college students, Laura Thackray, a sophomore at North Idaho College, and Jeffrey Tingley, a junior at Lewis-Clark State College, have been chosen for NASA Academy summer internships and will be spending their summer working on space-related research projects.

Thackray, a Lakeland High School graduate and Athol resident, will be at the NASA Academy at Dryden Flight Research Center at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., where she will work with the aerodynamics group taking part in flight tests and control-room operations.

She is a mechanical engineering student and vice president of the NIC Engineering Club.

Tingley, a Bonners Ferry High School graduate, will be working at the NASA Academy at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Mass.

Tingley is working toward degrees in both mathematics and engineering and is a member of the LCSC Ambassadors Honor Society. He received the Washington Water Power Minority Scholarship and Idaho State Minority and At-Risk scholarships.

Local University of Idaho students have been initiated into Sigma Tau Delta, the English honorary society. Students must be English majors, have completed six credits in English courses higher than English 104 and maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.0. Students and their hometowns are:

Bonners Ferry: Holly Cooley, a senior and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Cooley of Bonners Ferry; and Alicia Guinn, a sophomore and daughter of Jonathan Guinn and Michele Gill.

Moscow: Janice Corey, a teaching English as a second language master’s degree candidate and daughter of Gilbert and Betty Corey; Karin Intermill, a senior and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Intermill; Teresa Rice, a junior and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Randal Rice; Sara Wells, a teaching English as a second language master’s degree candidate; and Erica Herrington Williams, a senior and daughter of Clarence and Kathryn Howard.

Post Falls: Kara Patton, a junior and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Evey; and Erin Sweat, a sophomore and daughter of Gerald and Mary Sweat.

St. Maries: Eric Leitz, a junior and son of Hubert Leitz and Anita Matthews.
