Sounds Like He’s Just A Chip Off The Old Bloke

Among the guest artists on Paul McCartney’s new album, “Flaming Pie,” is none other than 20-year-old James McCartney.

“I played the acousticy sort of part, like an old blues guy, and I left the young turk to play the hot electric stuff,” McCartney says of the song “Heaven On A Sunday.”

“Of course, as a dad, I was just so proud. It’s just brilliant to be playing with your kid. He came up with some very nice phrases.”

In case you haven’t heard, the album title is a tribute to former Beatles mate John Lennon, who once wrote of the band’s name: “It came in a vision. A man appeared on a flaming pie and said unto them, ‘From this day on, you are Beatles with an ‘A.”’ Not that it really happened, McCartney adds. “Obviously, John hadn’t had a vision,” he says. “It was a joke.”

Loose talk

Jakob Dylan, on his dad (in Rolling Stone): ‘I’m 27 years old, I’m not a crackhead; I don’t go on afternoon talk shows and spill … I mean, you can probably figure it out for yourself that he did a decent job.”

One Run, several hits, no vowels

Rapper DMC turns 33 today.

Until then, we’ll all be holding our breath

A potentially fatal lung infection has forced Bob Dylan, who turned 56 one week ago, to cancel his planned European tour. Columbia Records issued a statement saying Dylan “will remain hospitalized in the care of his physicians until such time as they feel confident that his condition has improved.”

So, they’ll both be doing the Lourdes work

Madonna is no longer living with Carlos Leon, the father of her 7-month-old daughter, Lourdes, the New York Daily News reported this week. But the newspaper said she wants Leon to remain active in their child’s upbringing, no matter what happens between them.

But Poland better be careful how he touches it

Remember that tease earlier in the week about Michael Jackson making a “major investment” in Poland? Turns out he’ll be chipping in up to $300 million toward a theme park in Warsaw. Said the King of Pop: “I have been around the world six times since I was a baby, and no other country has touched me the way Poland has.”

So much for taking the King of Pop to court

Speaking of Michael Jackson, several former staffers at his Neverland Ranch have been ordered to pay $1.4 million in attorney’s fees and court costs after losing a lawsuit against him. The ex-workers claimed they were fired for cooperating in an investigation of child molestation accusations against the singer.

Seems like a lot of pounds, for such a lightweight

Yamaha had to airlift a new piano to New Age artist John Tesh over the Memorial Day weekend because his old keyboard had broken down. The diagnosis: “Extensive hard playing by Tesh.”
