Get A Hunch, Bet A Bunch

In the long run, it pays to keep your eyes peeled for winning streaks.

Beaten favorites, such as Far and Beyond in the first race and Georgia Echo in the eighth, often have an excuse for a disappointing effort. When speed horses break slowly, they often lack a clear path and end up far behind. When stretch-runners are blocked in traffic, past performances suggest that they lacked a rally.

Last out, Far and Beyond was wiped out at the start, and Georgia Echo was checked at the half-mile pole. Red Hot Hoofer, who won the latter race, tries to make it three in a row. So will One Sharp Sam in the fifth.

Saturday’s parlay doubled the $200 bet, but five seconds kept a good night from becoming a great one.

Here are today’s selections:

FIRST: $10 to win on FAR AND BEYOND and $5 doubles pairing him with SPOOKS CLASSY LADY and SASSY WAKE ($10).

SECOND: $2 exacta box of SPOOKS CLASSY LADY, SASSY WAKE and WRANGLERS N ROPERS ($12).

THIRD: $20 to win on HOLY SOX.

SEVENTH: $5 to win on KAPTAIN KENYA and $2 exactas pairing him with SHANE’S OCCASION, TOP THE MARTINIS and STATEYOURPOSITION ($6).

NINTH: $5 to win on AWINNERFORMARY and $1 trifectas wheeling her to GEE OH DEE, EXCLUSIVE TABOOR and SHE’S THE PITTS ($6).
