Hicks Finds End Zone 3 More Times

Skip Hicks had three scoring runs, tying his school record of 20 touchdowns in a season, and No. 12 UCLA forced four turnovers and had six sacks in a 27-7 victory over Stanford on Saturday at Stanford, Calif.

Hicks scored on runs of 1 and 4 yards in the first quarter and added a 24-yard scoring run with 1:59 left in the game. The Pac-10 record is 23 touchdowns in a season, set by Marcus Allen for Southern California in 1981 and matched by Washington’s Corey Dillon last year.

Hicks had 26 carries for 121 yards for UCLA (7-2 overall, 5-1 Pac-10), which won its seventh straight game.

In his last 19 games, Hicks has run for at least 100 yards 10 times.

At Berkeley, Calif., Justin Vedder threw for four touchdowns and 215 yards as California ended a five-game losing streak with a victory over Oregon State.

Both teams had 0-4 conference records going into the game, which Cal dominated with 433 yards of total offense.

The Golden Bears (3-5, 1-4) scored on their opening series and built a 33-7 lead in the first half. Dameane Douglas caught scoring passes of 20 and 11 yards from Vedder in the half. Vedder finished 21 of 29 for 215 yards and one interception.

Oregon State is 3-5, 0-5.

California extended its winning streak over Oregon State to five games.

The Golden Bears lead the overall series 30-20.
