Police Use Tear Gas To End Rowdy Party

From Staff And Wire Reports

Police used tear gas on hundreds of students at a Halloween party that got out of control.

The trouble began when police responded to complaints about noise coming from the off-campus party on sorority row Friday night. When officers showed up, they were pelted with bottles and rocks, said Eugene Police Sgt. Pete Deshpande.

Partygoers then began tearing up street signs and “everything in their path,” Deshpande said.

It wasn’t known whether any arrests were made among the crowd of 200-300 people.

Eugene police and University of Oregon students have had several run-ins this fall. On Oct. 4, officers used tear gas at an off-campus party police described as a riot.

Four people were arrested after officers had rocks and bottles thrown at their patrol cars.
