‘Last Summer’ No. 1 Once More

Associated Press

The slasher-thriller “I Know What You Did Last Summer” held off three new movies to become the first film since “Men in Black” to be No. 1 at the box office three consecutive weekends.

“Last Summer” took in $10 million in ticket sales, according to industry estimates released Sunday.

The movie co-stars TV’s Jennifer Love Hewitt from “Party of Five” and Sarah Michelle Gellar of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”

Of the new entries in wide release, “Red Corner,” starring Richard Gere as an American businessman railroaded by China’s criminal justice system, earned $8.3 million, apparently good enough for second place.

Other studios said the Al Pacino thriller “Devil’s Advocate,” which was third with $7.6 million, could surpass “Red Corner” once final weekend receipts are released.
