No Worse News For Injured Huskies Stars

Tacoma News Tribune

The reports came back negative, which was the biggest positive of the day for the Washington Huskies.

MRIs on UW running back Rashaan Shehee’s knee and quarterback Brock Huard’s ankle on Monday revealed no additional damage, meaning the injuries are no more serious than originally thought.

Still, Shehee is expected to be out 2-4 weeks with a partial tear of the medial collateral ligament in his left knee, which means he is sure to miss Saturday’s game at Husky Stadium against Oregon, and probably the following week’s game at UCLA.

Huard suffered a sprain of his left ankle that was termed as “fairly mild.” Freshman Marques Tuiasosopo is listed as the UW’s starter at quarterback for Saturday, but coach Jim Lambright said a final decision won’t be made until Thursday.

Sophomore Maurice Shaw will start in place of Shehee with junior Jason Harris as the backup.

Lambright said Shaw “gives us a little better power running game because of his strength and he is a little more of a straight-ahead runner, a little more like Corey Dillon. But the running game will still play the same role, and we won’t have to change anything that much.”

Chorak honored

UW linebacker/defensive end Jason Chorak was named Pac-10 defensive player of the week for his performance in the 27-0 win over USC Saturday.

Arizona State quarterback Ryan Kealy, whose four touchdown passes helped upset Washington State, has been named the Pac-10 offensive player of the week. ASU punter Marcus Williams was named the top special teams player after averaging 53.6 yards on seven punts.
