Sister Marian Adelaide, SNJM Yakima

Vigil service for Sister Marian (Beatrice Strelo) Adelaide, 76, was Monday at the Convent of Holy Names Chapel in Spokane. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. today at the convent. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Sr. Marian Adelaide, who was born in Seattle, died Saturday.

She graduated from Sacred Heart Elementary School and Holy Names Academy, both in Seattle.

She worked for the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company in Seattle. She was also a music teacher and organist at Sacred Heart and St. Catherine’s churches in Seattle. Sr. Marian Adelaide also studied music with the Sisters of the Holy Names.

She entered the convent at Marylhurst in Oregon in 1948. She later earned her music degree at Marylhurst College in Oregon.

Sr. Marian Adelaide was director and bookkeeper in the Spokane Convent for 21 years. The last 10 years was served in the Yakima Diocese and had previously lived in Sunnyside, Wash., and in Toppenish, Wash.

She is survived by a brother, Otto Strelo of Seattle.

Clarence Bosse Spokane

Vigil service for Clarence B. Bosse, 88, will be at 7 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Bosse, a Spokane resident for 60 years, died Thursday.

He was born in Keuterville, Idaho.

Mr. Bosse retired after 35 years of service with Spokane City Lines, SVR and Spokane Transit Authority. He also worked for Diamond Parking for 15 years.

Mr. Bosse was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish, Holy Names Society, Knights of Columbus and was an usher at St. Francis Xavier for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; a daughter, Marlene Edwards of Spokane; three brothers, Leo and James Bosse, both of Moscow, Idaho, and Leonard Bosse of Spokane; four sisters, Bernadine Egger of Chewelah, Wash., Reggie Skok of Spokane and Eleanor Olesen and Evelyn Grassl, both of Moscow, and a granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

Alice Wurster Spokane

Memorial service for Alice C. Wurster, 88, will be at 1 p.m. today at Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church. Private inurnment will be held at a later date. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Wurster, who was born in Beaver, Utah, died Wednesday.

She had previously lived in Alaska for 20 years and had been a Spokane resident for 40 years.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Wurster was a member of the Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church, the Learn-A-bit social club, Dorcas Circle at Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church, and was associated with Sheldon Jackson College and Whitworth College.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Roland; a daughter, Emily Hitchens of Seattle; a sister, Emily Belyea of Corvallis, Ore.; a half-sister, Margaret Hadden of Farmington, Utah; a half-brother, Ted Cockett of Ogden, Utah and one granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sheldon Jackson College or Whitworth College Alice Wurster Scholarship for young women studying language and literature.

Brian Morse Otis Orchards

Visitation for Brian C. Morse, 38, will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Heritage Funeral Home. Service is planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Morse, who was born in Coos Bay, Ore., died Saturday from injuries sustained in a one-car automobile accident in Stevens County.

He graduated in 1977 from University High School and also served in the Marine Corps.

In 1983 he married M’Liss Keilty in Spokane.

Mr. Morse worked in management for 15 years at Minute Lube and Q-Lube.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Daniel of Spokane; three daughters, Alissa, Stefanie and Brianna, all at home; his parents, Don and Joan Morse of Spokane; four brothers, Duane of Saratoga, Calif., Steven of Cheney and Donovan and Dennis, both of Spokane; two sisters, Linda Casey of Anchorage, Alaska and Sharon Fisher of Spokane.

Donald Owens Spokane

Visitation for Donald A. Owens, 59, will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Graveside service will be in Salem, Ore.

Mr. Owens, who was born in Portland, died Saturday.

He served with the Army and the Navy in Korea and Southeast Asia. He retired from the Navy.

Mr. Owens was also an employee of Modine Western.

He was a member of the Scottish Clan Donald and was a Washington Deputy Commissioner of the group.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Joan; a son, Kenneth Owens and a daughter, Rene Owens, both of Spokane; his mother, Vivian Owens of Salem, Ore.; two brothers, Robert and James Owens, both of Sandy, Ore., and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Lucille (Blessing) Mantooth Spokane

Vigil service for Lucille A. (Blessing) Mantooth, 67, will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Funeral Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Mantooth, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Saturday.

During World War II she was a mail clerk for Aluminum Company of America. She later worked for Keytronic.

She was a member of St. Joseph Parish and Altar Society.

Survivors include three sons, Bill Craver and Mike and John Mantooth, all of Spokane; a daughter, Royann Hanson of Spokane; a brother, Bill Blessing and a sister, CeCe Hansen, both of Spokane and eight grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane.

Mary Beedle Simpson Spokane

Service for Mary Beedle Simpson, 76, was Monday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Burial followed at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Simpson, who was born in Beaver County, Okla., died Oct. 28.

She married Roland Beedle in 1944. He died in 1982.

Mrs. Simpson married W. Dale Simpson in 1986. He died in 1993.

She was a homemaker and a SCOPE volunteer.

Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Weaver of Redmond, Ore., Bonnie Hunter of Spokane and Lorna Serianni of Appleton, Wis.; two stepdaughters, Cindy Thomas of Spokane and Shireen Vasques of DesMoines, Wash.; three sisters, Esther Bauersfield of Denver, Phyllis McGurk of Liberal, Kan., and Joyce Wadley of Tyrone, Okla.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Hazel Soot Winkleman Deer Park

Graveside service for Hazel Evelyn Soot Winkleman, 91, will be at 11 a.m. today at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of the arrangements.

Born in Spokane, Mrs. Winkleman, died Thursday.

She was a homemaker and was a member of the Deer Park Senior Citizens.

Her first husband, Oliver Soot, died in 1957. Her second husband, Carl Winkleman, died in 1996.

She is survived by two daughters, Eleanor Thompson of Deer Park and Elaine Costar of Spokane, and two grandsons.

Claude Coe Spokane

Service for Claude Coe, 86, will be at 1 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Coe, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Friday.

He retired from American Machine Works after 36 years.

He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Violet; two sons, Richard Coe of Osburn, Idaho, and David Coe of Otis Orchards; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Lewis Walen Spokane

Visitation for Lewis W. Walen, 74, will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Service is set for 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Pines Cemetery.

Mr. Walen, who died Wednesday, was born in Glennfield, N.D.

He retired after 30 years from the West Valley School District as a bus driver.

He is survived by his wife, Aldona; two sons, Randal and William Walen, both of Spokane; a daughter, Darlene Walen of Spokane; two brothers, John Walen of Minneapolis and Duane Walen of Hamilton, Mont.; a sister, Bertha Wright of Montana and two grandchildren.

Robert ‘Tiny’ Peak Davenport, Wash.

Service for Robert “Tiny” Peak, 86, was Monday at Strate Funeral Home in Davenport. Burial was at Mountain View Cemetery in Davenport.

Mr. Peak, a lifetime Davenport resident, died Friday.

He graduated from Davenport High School. He served in the Army during World War II.

He was a foreman for the state Highway Department and later retired.

Mr. Peak was a member of the Rocklyn Zion United Methodist Church, Davenport Masonic Lodge, El Katif Shrine and the Davenport Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel; three stepdaughters, Evelyn McNeal of Gig Harbor, Wash., Don Boyk of Davenport and Paulette Meldahl of Kaneohe, Hawaii; seven stepgrandchildren and 11 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rocklyn Zion United Methodist Church.

Jerrie Ward Spokane

Private family service will be held for Jerrie L. Ward, a 40-year Spokane resident. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Ward, 74, died Saturday.

She was born in Seattle and worked in shipping and handling at Sears and Jensen Byrd Co. in Spokane.

Mrs. Ward was a volunteer teachers assistant at Brown Elementary School.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert; a daughter, Sally Irvine of Seattle; two sons, Robert Ward of Friday Harbor, Wash., and William Ward of Spokane; a brother, Eric Ratcliffe of Grants Pass, Ore., and six grandchildren.

Herbert Kessel Libby, Mont.

Graveside service for Herbert P. “Herb” Kessel, a former North Idaho resident, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. Nelson and Vial Funeral Home in Libby is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Kessel, 85, died Friday.

He was born in Dodson, Mont., and lived in Warland, Mont., and Elk, Wash., before settling in Coeur d’Alene.

Mr. Kessel worked as a commercial baker throughout the Inland Northwest, working in bakeries in Kellogg and Walla Walla before moving to Libby.

He owned and operated the Libby Bakery. Following the sale of the bakery he worked at Adkins Supermarket in Kalispell for a time before returning to work in Kellogg and later at Albertson’s in Coeur d’Alene until his retirement.

Mr. Kessel moved back to Libby several years ago.

Memberships included the Shoshone Elks Lodge in Wallace and the Bakers and Confectionery Workers Union.

His wife, Maude Krigbaum Kessel, died in 1978.

Survivors include four sons, Bruce Kessel of Libby, William Kessel of Ft. Mohave, Arizona, Morris Krigbaum of New Meadows, Idaho and Lamoine Krigbaum of Spokane; two brothers, Ted Kessel of Spokane and Marvin Kessel of Coeur d’Alene; three sisters, Clara Myhraug of Libby, Ethel Frederick of Puyallup, Wash., and Irene Rogers of Coeur d’Alene; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Wesley Westerman Valleyford

Service for Wesley F. Westerman, 82, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Valleyford Community Church. Burial will follow at the Rockford Cemetery. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Westerman, who was born in Heron, Minn., died Wednesday.

He was a mechanic for School District 81.

His wife, Alice, died in February.

Survivors include a son, John Westerman of Valleyford.

Sadie Martello Spokane

Funeral Mass for Sadie Martello, 95, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Martello, who was born in Port Chester, N.Y., died Thursday.

She was a Spokane resident since 1925 and worked as a housekeeper for Sacred Heart Medical Center.

Mrs. Martello retired at the age of 65.

She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church.

Her husband, Andrew, died in 1945.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Louis and Ruth Gardipee of Spokane.

Bert Parshall Spokane

Service for Bert A. Parshall, 80, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Burial will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Born in Nebraska, Mr. Parshall died Saturday.

He moved to Spokane in 1940 and worked on Grand Coulee Dam. He also drove a cab in Spokane.

Mr. Parshall retired from Burlington Northern Railroad in 1979 as a brakeman.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carolyne; a daughter, Karen Crawford and a son, Dennis Parshall, both of Spokane; three sisters, Eileen Tong, Ann Brown and Esther Teston, and six grandchildren.
