Boyle Holds Lead In Sewer District Race

Compiled From Wire Services

In the Liberty Lake Sewer District, incumbent commissioner Frank Boyle appeared to be headed for a win over challenger John Mellick.

Boyle is protective of the Liberty Lake watershed. His opponent, a 25-year resident of the lake, says growth is inevitable.

Liberty Lake has suffered problems from storm water and other runoff, stemming partly from development around the lake. The sewer district oversees efforts to keep the lake’s water clean.

Boyle’s goals for the district include gaining permits to double the sewage treatment plant’s million-gallon capacity, along with reducing storm water and point pollution to the lake. He’s also said that replacing the district’s outgrown administrative building is a priority.
