Talk About A Currency That’s In The Toilet

Workers at a cash-strapped Russian clock factory who got a bonus needed three days to get the loot home.

But the workers didn’t feel that much richer because the bonus was paid in toilet paper - with each worker getting about 150 rolls, according to today’s edition of the daily Izvestia. Most workers needed three days to carry that much toilet paper home after work.

The factory is in Penza, a city 340 miles southeast of Moscow.

Russia’s struggling industries are plagued by short funding and often do not pay workers on time. President Boris Yeltsin’s government long has pledged to solve the issue, but so far has failed to deliver.
