Dollar Hits Six-Month High Vs. Yen

The dollar leaped to a nearly six-month high against the Japanese yen Wednesday after the No. 2 U.S. Treasury official said no agreement had been reached on an international bailout fund for struggling Asian economies.

The dollar also finished lower against the German mark as traders bought European currencies and sold yen to minimize their exposure to Asia’s struggling financial markets.

“The Japanese remain in a box. All the economies around them are going to slow down,” said Ricardo Gomes, head of foreign exchange at Republic National Bank.
