Examiner Oks Bank, Medical/Dental Office

The Spokane hearing examiner has approved a new drive-in bank branch and a medical-dental office building for the corner of 29th and Southeast Boulevard.

The development replaces a church that was demolished at the site.

Washington Trust Bank is planning to build a 2,359-square-foot branch at the intersection. It will have five drive-up windows.

The north part of the four-acre site will hold an office building with 39,400 square feet of space.

Plans call for 156 parking spaces.

In a decision on Oct. 28, Hearing Examiner Greg Smith required the developers to build an island to prevent left turns from Southeast Boulevard onto the site.

Also, the city may later require the developer to install improvements at the intersection of 29th and Stone.

Stone Street on the east side of the site will be paved by the developers.

A landscape plan is being required, and the city has ordered the developer to keep as many existing pine trees as possible. Twelve feet of landscaping will be planted at the north end of the property.

The plan incorporates two separate development proposals previously approved by the city in 1989 and 1990.

Property owners Monte J. Kestell and T. Patrick Lacy are working with Washington Trust on the development. They own lots on the north part of the property.

The hearing examiner has ordered the owners to merge their land into a single parcel for tax purposes.
