Sandpoint Man Ok After Train Hits Car

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Sandpoint man escaped injury, but his car was totaled after it became stuck on a set of railroad tracks and was hit by a freight train.

Thomas E. Parks, 39, drove his car through a stop sign on Colburn-Culver Road on Wednesday morning. His car continued across both lanes of state Highway 200, went through a ditch and came to rest atop the railroad tracks on the other side of the highway, Idaho State Police said.

Parks could not free his car from the tracks and abandoned the vehicle before it was struck by a Montana Rail Link train.

Parks injured his back when he hit the tracks. He was cited for driving too fast for conditions and failure to have a driver’s license. Authorities said it was extremely foggy in the area. , DataTimes
