Gsl Teams Come Up Big In Regional Tournament

Ferris, Lewis and Clark and Rogers all advanced to the winners bracket of the Region IV 4A volleyball tournament Friday in Yakima. Mead wasn’t so lucky.

Alissa Ross had seven kills and four service aces to propel Ferris, the GSL’s top seed, to a 15-1, 15-11 victory over Big Nine No. 4 seed Eisenhower.

GSL No. 2 seed Lewis and Clark upended Big Nine No.

3 seed Davis 15-10, 15-10 behind the 11 kills and two blocks of Erin Naipo.

Second-seeded Pasco beat No. 3 seed Mead 16-14, 15-11.

Fourth-seeded Rogers upset Walla Walla, the Big Nine’s top seed, 15-6, 15-8. Rogers’ Kaite Logue had 20 assists.

Ferris takes on Pasco today at 10 a.m. in the winners bracket of the double-elimination tourney, followed by an LC-Rogers showdown at 11:30. The winners of the two morning matches qualify for the state tournament. The top four teams advance.

Mead will play Eisenhower in a loser-out contest.

District 7 A/B boys soccer

Freshman Jordon Sykes scored a pair of goals to lead the Northwest Christian Crusaders to a 4-0 win over the visiting Northport Mustangs in the District 7 A/B tournament.

The Crusaders, seeded No. 2, will play the District 5 No. 1 seed Friday night at 8 at Lampson Field in Kennewick.

Jeremy Decker, Ben James and Shane King each scored goals to spark the Valley Christian Panthers to a 3-1 win over visiting Daystar of Moses Lake.

The win sends the Panthers (10-5) into a Tuesday match against today’s Wahluke-Sunnyside Christian winner.

The winner of Tuesday’s match will play District 7 top seed St. George’s in a regional contest at Kennewick on Friday.

Idaho football

Sandpoint dominated after intermission en route to a 32-12 win over visiting No. 1 ranked Lake City in an A-1 Division II playoff game Friday.

The Bulldogs (7-3) advance to a second-round duel with Lewiston (7-2-1) next Friday at the Kibbie Dome in Moscow.

The Bengals, who beat Sandpoint in double overtime two weeks ago, pounded Nampa 55-21.
