SOUTH

Virginia 35, Georgia Tech 31: At Charlottesville, Va., Anthony Southern ran 1 yard for a touchdown with 1:16 to play Saturday, capping a 75-yard, 15-play drive that gave the Cavaliers (6-3, 5-2 ACC) their victory over the Yellow Jackets (4-4, 3-3).

Virginia trailed 31-28 before Tech’s Phillip Rogers fumbled at the Cavaliers’ 25 with 7:14 left and Anthony Poindexter made his second fumble recovery.

On the ensuing drive for the winning touchdown, Southern turned a short pass into a 16-yard gain, caught a swing pass on third and 10 and bulled 12 yards to the Yellow Jackets’ 19, then ran for the yard necessary to convert another third down to the Tech 10.

Clemson 29, Duke 20 OT: At Clemson, S.C., linebacker Rahim Abdullah returned an interception 63 yards for a touchdown in overtime, as the Tigers (6-3, 4-3 ACC) handed the Blue Devils (2-7, 0-6) their 16th consecutive conference defeat.

N. Carolina St. 45, Maryland 28: At Raleigh, N.C.,- Jamie Barnette threw two touchdown passes and ran for one score as the Wolfpack (4-5, 2-5) defeated the Terrapins (2-8, 1-6 ACC) with a 448-yard performance.

Tulane 26, Memphis 14: At New Orleans, Shawn King threw two touchdown passes, and Keaton Cromartie had seven sacks and deflected a field goal attempt as the Green Wave (6-3, 4-1 C-USA) defeated the Tigers (3-6, 1-3), clinching Tulane’s first winning season since 1981.

Louisiana Tech 32, Alabama-Birmingham 29: At Birmingham, Ala., Tim Rattay was 29 of 44 for 332 yards and three touchdowns, setting a school record for passing yards in a season as the Bulldogs (8-2) defeated the Blazers (3-6).

MIDWEST

Colorado 43, Iowa St. 38: At Ames, Iowa, John Hessler drove Colorado to the winning touchdown after making two critical mistakes and the Buffaloes (5-4, 3-3 Big 12) defeated the Cyclones (1-8, 1-5) on Dwayne Cherrington’s 1-yard touchdown run with 9 seconds left.

Colorado pulled it out after Iowa State, which blew an 18-point lead, had gone ahead 38-37 on Jamie Kohl’s 24-yard field goal with 2:54 remaining.

Northwestern 34, Illinois 21: At Champaign, Ill., Chris Hamdorf passed for 183 yards and three TDs in his first start this season as the Wildcats (4-7, 2-5) defeated the Fighting Illini (0-9, 0-6), extending Illinois’ losing streak to 15 games.

Cincinnati 28, Louisville 9: At Cincinnati, Tinker Keck returned first-half punts 44 and 78 yards for TDs to lead the Bearcats (7-3, 2-3 C-USA) past the Cardinals (1-9, 0-5).

Miami, Ohio 45, Ohio 21: At Athens, Ohio, Travis Prentice rushed for 227 yards and two touchdowns and Sam Ricketts passed for 254 yards and four scores to lead the RedHawks (8-2, 5-2 MAC) over the Bobcats (8-2, 6-1).

In other MAC games, Chad Pennington passed for 334 yards and three TDs to lead Marshall (8-2, 6-1 MAC) past Bowling Green 28-0; Eastern Michigan (4-6, 3-5) defeated Northern Illinois (0-10, 0-7) 38-10; Akron (2-8, 2-5) defeated Kent (3-7, 3-5) 45-35; and Western Michigan (7-3, 6-2) defeated Central Michigan (2-9, 1-7) 38-24.

SOUTHWEST

Texas Tech 24, Texas 10: At Austin, Texas, Dane Johnson returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown and Texas Tech freshman Ricky Williams outrushed his namesake from Texas 131-80 as the Red Raiders (5-4, 4-2 Big 12) defeated the Longhorns (3-6, 1-5).

Rice 38, TCU 19: At Houston, Chad Nelson rushed for 118 yards and three touchdowns to help the Owls (6-3, 4-2 WAC) defeat the Horned Frogs (0-9, 0-6).

SMU 28, UTEP 14: At Dallas, Kelsey Adams ran for 104 yards and two touchdowns as the Mustangs (5-4, 4-2 WAC) defeated the Miners (3-6, 2-4) for their fourth straight win.

East Carolina 28, Houston 27: At Houston, Dan Gonzalez picked apart Houston’s defense with four touchdown passes, the last one a 50-yarder to Troy Smith with 7:07 to play, rallying the Pirates (4-5, 3-2 C-USA) past the Cougars (3-6, 2-2 C-USA).

WEST

Colorado St. 41, Fresno St. 3: At Fort Collins, Colo., Moses Moreno completed 20 of 26 passes for 249 yards and a touchdown and ran for a score, sparking the Rams (8-2, 6-1 WAC) past the Bulldogs (5-5, 4-2).

The WAC’s top offensive team dominated from the outset, generating 484 yards to 212 for Fresno.

Air Force 24, Army 0: At Air Force Academy, Colo., defensive back Tim Curry scored on a fumble recovery and the Falcons (9-2) throttled the Cadets’ (3-5) running attack to regain the Commander in Chief’s trophy.

Army won the prestigious trophy last year, but the Air Force got it back with victories over the Cadets and Navy.

BYU 49, Tulsa 39: At Provo, Utah, Kevin Feterik, back after missing three games with injuries, completed 15 of 28 passes for 246 yards and four touchdowns as the Cougars (6-3, 4-2 WAC) outlasted the Golden Hurricane (2-7, 2-5 WAC).

Wyoming 35, UNLV 23: At Laramie, Wyo., Mike Jenkins ran for two touchdowns and Jay Stoner accounted for two scores as the Cowboys (7-4, 4-2 WAC) defeated the Rebels (3-7, 2-5).

San Diego St. 48, San Jose St. 21: At San Diego, Jonas Lewis rushed for two touchdowns and Eric Lewis scored on a 79-yard punt return to lead the Aztecs (4-6, 3-3 WAC) past the Spartans (2-7, 2-4).

EAST

Navy 49, Temple 17: At Annapolis, Md., Navy quarterback Chris McCoy scored twice to become the school’s career touchdown leader, and the Midshipmen (4-4) got touchdowns on each of their first five possessions to defeat the Owls (3-7).

Wake Forest 28, Rutgers 14: At Piscataway, N.J., Herman Lewis rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns and the Demon Deacons (5-5) sent the Scarlet Knights (0-10) to their 13th consecutive defeat.
