Art Proposals Sought For New Indian Trail Branch Library

The Spokane Public Library wants proposals for the design, development, fabrication and installation of a work of permanent public art for the new Indian Trail Branch Library, 4909 W. Barnes Road.

Professional artists in Washington, Oregon and Idaho are welcome to submit proposals for the project, budgeted for $13,000. The selection criteria are artistic merit, relationship to the site and project intent, the artist’s proven ability to carry out the project, and the ease and cost of the work’s maintenance.

Submission deadline is 5 p.m., Dec. 15. A copy of the prospectus, with the project timeline and required submission materials, is available by calling Dolly Richendrfer at 444-5312.

Auditions

Spokane Civic Theatre will hold auditions for “On Golden Pond” at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Production dates are Jan. 9-31.

Needed are a young boy or girl over 11, a woman 30 or older, two men 30 or older, a woman to appear 70 years old, and a man to appear 80 years old.

Before tryouts, auditioners are asked to read the script, available at the theater, 1020 N. Howard. Director Charles Kenfield asks auditioners not to view the film version in preparation for the audition. For more information, call the theatre at 325-1413.

‘Innocence’ accepted

Spokane artist Marian Flahavin’s pastel painting, “Age of Innocence,” has been accepted for the Grand National Exhibition of the American Artists Professional League in New York City. The show runs from Nov. 11 to 21 at the Salmagundi Club.

Flahavin also had work exhibited at Seattle’s International PEO convention in September.

Web site contest

Eastern Washington University’s Department of Art and the EWU Gallery Program are sponsoring a contest to design a Web site for high school art works. The contest is open to high school students from Washington, Idaho and Montana. The winner will receive a $500 scholarship to EWU.

Design entries are due by Dec. 1 and should include the graphics and organizational framework for the various components of a homepage. Designs can be submitted by computer disk or hard copy with supporting visuals (color slides or original artwork) that can be electronically scanned into the homepage.

The winning Web site will be part EWU’s Visual Arts at Eastern homepage and will display selected high school artwork throughout the year. The site is www.visual.arts.ewu.edu.

‘First Bite’ displayed
