Oasis: An Opportunity Lost

Ken Rock Lake City

I admit it. I like Oasis. Their last album “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?” was one of the best albums of 1995. “Be Here Now,” their latest effort is disappointing because it has a lot of potential but fails to achieve most of it.

There are several great tracks on this album. The first track “D’You Know What I Mean?” is totally groovy with its marching beat and really cool chorus that’s fun to sing along with. The most interesting and innovative track is “Fade In-Out” with Johnny Depp on slide guitar, adding a touch of country flavor. The song remains low key until Liam Gallagher’s primal scream sends it into overdrive.

Despite the great screaming there are several low points on the album. “I Hope I Think I Know” and “Be Here Now” are both songs that lack the sparkle to be worthy of their length. “All Around the World” is a cool song that unfortunately is four minutes too long at its nine-minute length.

The album is a good album. It has some great tunes. But the low spots only make me think what the album could have been.
