React Contest Looking For A Few Gool Leaders

Katherine Koedinger West Valley

React magazine and the New World Foundation are sponsoring the 1998 React Take Action awards. The contest rewards the efforts of 25 teens whose work has made a positive impact on their school, community, the nation or the world.

All students, ages 12 to 18, who are not yet in college, are invited to enter. You must submit a 500-word typed essay describing your leadership achievements in detail. The essay should include information on how the work got started, where it is located, who the participants are, how many people are involved, what the program’s goals are and the measurable impact it has had on the community. Five first place winners will each receive a $20,000 college scholarship and a trip to New York City. Ten second prize winners will receive a $1,000 scholarship. Those 15 winners plus 10 runners-up each will get to distribute $25,000 worth of toys and clothes to charities that help needy kids in their communities.

Entry forms are available at Wal-Mart beginning today, or on the React Web site (www.react.com).
