Holocaust Memorials Vandalized At Dachau

Compiled From Wire Services

Five Holocaust memorial stones at a branch of the Dachau concentration camp near Munich were sprayed with paint the night before a ceremony marking the 59th anniversary of the Kristallnacht Nazi pogrom against Jews.

Police said the motive for the vandalism is unclear because the messages sprayed were not anti-Semitic but were directed against the head of a citizens group responsible for the site.

But the chairman of the group, Manfred Deiler, blamed neo-Nazis angry over the banning of a weekend march they had planned in Munich.

He said the damage was discovered Sunday morning just before the camp was to hold the Kristallnacht ceremony.
