Harriet ‘Hattie’ Connor Spokane

Memorial service for Harriet J. “Hattie” Connor, 87, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church. Private inurnment will be held. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Connor, a native of Spokane, died Nov. 4.

She was the society editor for the Spokane Chronicle from 1949 until her retirement in 1975.

Mrs. Connor was a member of the Junior League and the Spokane Club.

There are no surviving family members.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Nicholas Orthodox Church.

Raymond Kinder Chehalis, Wash.

Visitation for Raymond J. Kinder, 81, will be from 8 to 10 a.m. today at Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville, Wash. Rosary and Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Ritzville Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Kinder, a former Ritzville resident, died Sunday.

He was born in Bashaw County, Wis.

In 1934 he moved to California, where he worked at a dairy and managed a farm in the San Pasqual Valley.

In 1938 he married Virginia Jones in Romona, Calif.

They moved in 1952 to Washington state and lived near Ephrata, Soap Lake and Coulee City before moving to Ritzville in 1955.

In Ritzville, he worked for the Ritzville Trading Co. and for Harris Harvester. He began working in 1960 for Weintz Tractor in Odessa, Wash., and continued until his retirement in 1981.

His wife died in 1992.

Mr. Kinder moved to Chehalis four years ago.

He is survived by a daughter, Rosemary Lefebvre of Chehalis; a brother, Paul Kinder of Kimberly, Wis.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth ‘Bessie’ Slagle Republic, Wash.

Funeral Mass for Elizabeth “Bessie” Slagle, 81, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Republic Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Republic Cemetery. Bergh Funeral Home in Republic is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Slagle, who was born in Spokane, died Friday.

She graduated from Holy Names High School and also from Holy Names College in 1940 with a degree in education.

In 1943 she married Maurice Slagle in Republic.

Mrs. Slagle taught school in Republic and also was a homemaker and worked in a drugstore.

Mrs. Slagle was a member of the Ferry County Historical Society, Genealogy Club and Home Economics Club and served in the Immaculate Conception Altar Society. She was involved with Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, Tom Slagle of Two Rivers, Alaska, and Rob Slagle of Republic; two daughters, Margaret Turner of Redmond, Wash., and Mary Bliss of Ferndale, Wash.; and seven grandchildren.

Mickey Bye Coeur d’Alene

Service for Mickey Bye, 95, is set for 11 a.m. today at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Private burial will follow.

Mrs. Bye, who was born in Spokane Bridge, Wash., died Saturday.

She grew up and attended school in Spokane Bridge and worked on the family farm.

She later worked for Armour Meat Packing Co., in Spokane and settled in the Spokane Valley, where she owned a motel.

Mrs. Bye moved to Post Falls in 1962 after retiring and moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1963.

She was a member of Pleasant View Church, where she played the organ.

Her husband, Arnie, died in 1962.

Survivors include five nieces, Rosalie Moody and Donna Bradley, both of Post Falls, Marlene Routson of Issaquah, Wash., Marilyn Cornett of Blanchard, Idaho, and Janice Goodman of Wilbur, Wash.; and four nephews, Ed Holland of Kellogg, Ken Holland of Seattle, and Ron and Ben Holland, both of Post Falls.

Joseph Baily Spokane

Memorial service for Joseph Bailey, 89, will be at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 19 at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Mr. Baily, who was born in Spokane, died Oct. 26.

He received a journalism degree from Stanford University and went to work at The Spokesman-Review in 1936. He retired as the newspaper’s Sunday editor in 1968.

During World War II, Mr. Baily was a traveling war correspondent and editor for Stars and Stripes. He later worked for its Rome edition.

In 1962, he married Bernice Gilman.

Survivors include his wife; and a brother, Robert Baily of Huntington Beach, Calif.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine’s Joseph and Bernice Gilman Baily Endowed Chair in Animal Well-being Science.

Rose Naccarato Spokane

Funeral Mass for Rose M. Naccarato, 84, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Naccarato, who was born in Spokane, died Monday.

In 1934 she married Joe Naccarato in Priest River, Idaho.

She worked for the Diana Shops downtown and at NorthTown until her retirement.

Mrs. Naccarato was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters.

Her husband died in 1985.

Survivors include a son, Larry Naccarato; two daughters, Anita Morton and Betty La Duke; four sisters, Virginia Allen, Julia Jachetta, Garbo Naccarato and Santa Cozza; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Bonnie (Cooper) Yates Spokane

Service is pending for Bonnie Jeanne (Cooper) Yates. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Yates, 66, died Saturday.

She was born in Wallace and graduated from Central Valley High School.

Mrs. Yates was a resident of Spokane for 52 years.

She is survived by her husband, L.B. Yates, Sr.; three sons, Lyle and Brian Yates Jr., both of Spokane, and Loren Yates of Renton, Wash.; a daughter, Sherill Lukinich of Alaska; her mother, Leota White of Spokane; a sister, Carol Ann Allison of Florence, Ore.; and a brother, John Cooper of Bellevue.

Martha Robinson Spokane

Memorial service for Martha P. Robinson, 72, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Rockwood Manor. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Robinson, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Sunday.

She worked for Fidelity Mutual Savings and Loans in Spokane as a secretary for many years.

Her husband, Richard Robinson Sr., preceded her in death.

She is survived by two sons, Richard Robinson Jr. of Indonesia and James Robinson of Spokane; a daughter, Martha McLeod of Spokane; a brother, Guy Perham of Spokane; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Thomas Lappano Spokane

Memorial service for Thomas J. Lappano, 68, will be at 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Lappano, a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Sunday.

He was an Army veteran and worked as a molder for Travis Pattern and Foundry Inc.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years; his children; a brother, Sam Lappano, and grandchildren.

Myrtle Young Van Etten Bonners Ferry, Idaho

Service for Myrtle Frances (Robinson) Young Van Etten, 90, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bonners Ferry Funeral Home. Private burial will follow at Moravia (Idaho) Cemetery.

Mrs. Van Etten, who was born in Missouri, died Nov. 1.

She lived in Boundary County, in Montana and on the Colville Indian Reservation before returning to Boundary County in 1929.

Mrs. Van Etten had lived in the Moravia, Eastport, Porthill and North Bench areas of Boundary County.

She was a member of the Rebekkah Lodge and the Boundary County Craft Club and was a Girl Scout leader.

Her husband, Orval, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Krigbaum of Spokane; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Mounte Johnson St. Albans, W.Va.

Service for Mounte Ray Johnson, 25, will be at 1 p.m. today at the Community Church in Springdale, Wash. Burial will follow at Ford (Wash.) Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Johnson, who was born in Bremerton, died Oct. 31 from injuries suffered in a train accident in St. Albans.

He was a former Ford resident and moved to St. Albans four years ago.

He worked for a railroad in West Virginia.

Survivors include his fiancee, Crystal Wilcox of St. Albans; a daughter, Tiffany Johnson of St. Albans; his mother, Ada Johnson of Ford; his father, Stewart Johnson of Bremerton; three sisters, Gabby Humphrey, and Heidi and Heather Johnson, all of Spokane; a brother, Brett Johnson of Ford; and his maternal grandfather and stepgrandmother, Jesse and Lelia Ellis of Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

Inez Hagen Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Inez Pederson Hagen, 82, will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Coeur d’Alene Bible Church. Burial will take place at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hagen, who was born in Bellingham, died Monday.

She grew up in Montana and moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1927, graduating from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1932.

Mrs. Hagen went on to attend business school in Spokane, where she lived before returning to Coeur d’Alene in 1977.

She was a member of Coeur d’Alene Bible Church and had been involved as a Sunday school teacher, superintendent, choir member and youth leader.

Mrs. Hagen was a charter member of the Martin Street Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Bert, in 1984.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Hagen of Alaska and Dennis Hagen of Oregon; a daughter, Susan Nipp of Coeur d’Alene; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Anthony Zaremba Spokane

Visitation for Anthony Zaremba, 83, will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at Heritage Funeral Home. Funeral service is planned for 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Born in Chicago, Mr. Zaremba died Monday.

In 1949 he married Margaret Hatzl in Munich, Germany.

He was in the Air Force for 32 years and retired in 1966. He then worked as a civilian maintenance worker at Fairchild Air Force Base.

Mr. Zaremba was a 41-year resident of Airway Heights and Spokane and was a member of the Catholic Church, Spokane Rifle Club and Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his wife; a son, John Zaremba of Federal Way, Wash.; two daughters, Toni Tortorelli of Spokane and Nancy Ferguson of Duvall, Wash.; two brothers, John Zaremba of Yonkers, N.Y., and Victor Zaremba of Panama City, Fla.; three sisters, Marie Kirkpatrick of Moreno Valley, Calif., Nell Burke of Rhinebeck, N.Y., and Adviene Walker of Millville, N.J.; and four grandchildren.

Jack Zimmer Oldtown, Idaho

Funeral Mass for Jack Theodore Zimmer, 69, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Priest River, Idaho. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Priest River. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash., is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Zimmer, who was born in Walla Walla, died Sunday.

He moved to Newport when he was 5 and graduated in 1946 from Newport High School.

Mr. Zimmer worked in a machine shop in Priest River, then joined the Navy. He was a machinist during the Korean War.

In 1952, he married Leona Doe in Newport.

He owned and operated Albeni Machine Shop in Oldtown for 31 years before he retired in 1995.

Mr. Zimmer was a member of the Newport Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Linda Box of Boise, Jackie Taylor of Hayden Lake, Idaho, and Karen Zimmer of Medford, Ore.; a son, Mike Zimmer of Snohomish, Wash.; three sisters, Mary Kosderka of Portland, Agnes Toregeson of Boise and Francis Swanguen of Campo, Calif.; a brother, Bill Zimmer of Spokane and five grandchildren.

Andrew Smith Spokane

Graveside service for Andrew Arthur Smith, 80, is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Smith, who was born in Conconully, Wash., died Saturday.

He worked for Great Northern Railway and Burlington Northern Railroad as a section foreman.

Mr. Smith lived in Waverly and Fairfield for 44 years and was a Grange member.

He is survived by a large extended family in the area and in West Virginia.

Adeline Luce Spokane Visitation for Adeline Delzer Luce, 95, will be from 9 a.m. to noon today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Service will follow at 2 p.m. at Beacon Chapel. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Luce, who was born in Odessa, Wash., died Sunday.

In 1926 she married Clarence Luce and graduated in the 1930s from Sacred Heart School of Nursing.

She worked as a licensed practical nurse in area hospitals and retired from private nursing in 1965.

Mrs. Luce was a member of the Hotel and Restaurant Employees Union Local No. 400 and a 50-year member of Beacon Chapel.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Thomas Luce of Tacoma; a daughter, Betty Jean Hannaman of Honolulu; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Jemina Hardesty Spokane

No service will be held for Jemina Isabelle Hardesty, 77. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Born in Independence, Kan., Mrs. Hardesty died Saturday.

She was a 62-year Spokane resident and worked in the optical field most of her life.

Mrs. Hardesty was a member of the Unity Church in Spokane.

Her husband, Raymond Hardesty, died in 1973.

Survivors include two sons, Raymond and John Hardesty, both of Spokane; a daughter, Mary Gibson of Vancouver, Wash.; a stepbrother, Rodney Hardesty of Kansas; and eight grandchildren.

Howard Shearer Malden, Wash.

Graveside service for Howard Shearer, 86, was Monday at the Lewis and Clark Memorial Gardens in Lewiston.

Mr. Shearer, who was born in Edgeley, N.D., died Wednesday.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

Mr. Shearer was a mill worker for Potlatch Lumber Mills and later retired.

He moved to Malden in 1978 from the Lewiston area.

Mr. Shearer was a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Olive; a son, Gerald Shearer of Pierce, Idaho; three daughters, Wendy Sue Rogers and Cara Shearer both of Mesa, Ariz., and Jeanette Miller of Malden; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
