Post Falls Tragedy

Thirteen-year-old Nicholas Scherling of Post Falls died last Monday after being struck by a vehicle along a darkened roadway. He was walking home from school at the time. The tragedy has ignited a debate about the safety of school children in Post Falls.

Does the city have a responsibility to provide better lighting and sidewalks? Did the school district make a wise decision to relieve overcrowding by running double shifts of students through the middle school? Do voters bear some responsibility for sending kids to and from school in the dark every day because they haven’t passed a bond proposal to build more schools?

It’s an important public debate, and we would like to hear your thoughts. Simply follow the instructions for submitting letters to the editor (see Keep in Touch on this page). Thanks. , DataTimes
