Richard Adams Spokane

Visitation for Richard S. Adams, 74, will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Heritage Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. Interment will follow at Fairmount Memorial park.

Mr. Adams, who was born in Spokane, died Friday.

He graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School and attended the University of Idaho.

He served in the Navy during World War II and later attended Iowa State University in Ames, where he earned an engineering degree.

Mr. Adams owned and operated Adams Engineering in Spokane with his brother, Robert. His father, Chester, founded the business.

His first wife, Doris Vallentyne, died in 1979.

Mr. Adams was a member of the Washington Society of Professional Engineers, Sigma Chi, Spokane Club and Manito Golf and Country Club, and was on the board of directors of the Lilac Blind Association. He attended the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.

Survivors include his wife of eight years, Patricia; a son, Steven Vallentyne Adams of Spokane; a daughter, Jill Gains of Lewiston; a brother, Robert Adams of Spokane; two sisters, Joy Cummings of Spokane and Kay Leid of Thailand; and eight grandchildren.

Dale Polhemus Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Dale Nelson Polhemus, 72, was Monday at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene.

Mr. Polhemus, who was born in Iowa, died Wednesday.

He grew up and graduated from high school in Iowa and went on to serve with the Army in Germany during World War II.

Mr. Polhemus attended Iowa State University after his military service and then worked as a commercial apiarist and an agronomist for the university.

He later became a foreman for Bourns Inc., an aircraft instruments company, before moving to Spokane in 1972.

He worked for Claire-Pendar and moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1973.

Mr. Polhemus became an insurance agent and went to work for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Agency in Spokane in 1980, retiring this year.

Mr. Polhemus was co-inventor of the dew recorder, which is used in growing potatoes.

Survivors include his wife, Irmi; a son, Thomas Polhemus of Minnesota; a daughter, Monica Ridenour of Pennsylvania; two brothers, Martin Polhemus of Spokane and John Polhemus of Colorado; and four grandchildren.

Judith Lindley Spirit Lake, Idaho

Private family service for Judith Kay Lindley, 53, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel.

Mrs. Lindley, who was born in California, died Saturday.

She had worked as a dietary supervisor in hospitals and nursing homes in California and Washington before moving to Spirit Lake six years ago.

Mrs. Lindley was a housewife and was active in ceramics.

Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Clarence; three sons, A. Dwight Lindley and Dale Lindley, both of Spirit Lake, and Dwayne Lindley of Oldtown, Idaho; a stepson, Darold Kremer of California; three daughters, Dorothy Lindley of Spirit Lake, and Delora Luthy and Delaine Matthews, both of Newport, Wash.; a stepdaughter, Gail Dugan of Montana; her mother, Delores Penfield of California; her father, Benjamin Woodson of Missouri; a sister, June Fay Nave of California; a brother, William Woodson of California; a stepbrother, Frederick Penfield of Louisiana; a stepsister, Sylvia Bowie of California; and 16 grandchildren.

Norman Wilson Spokane

Funeral service for Norman G. Wilson, 68, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at at Riplinger Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mr. Wilson, who was born in Portland, died Friday.

He graduated from Gonzaga Prep in 1947.

In 1961, he married Jessie Wilson in Spokane and was a resident of Spokane for more than 60 years.

Mr. Wilson was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War.

He drove long-haul trucks for Consolidated Freightways before retiring in 1992.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, Eagles Lodge and the American Legion. He was elected to the Urban Water District.

His survivors include his wife, Jessie; a son, Norman Wilson of Spokane; a daughter, Dawn Naccarato of Spokane; a stepson, Robert Clark of Reseda, Calif.; three stepdaughters, Susan Miller of Phoenix, and Pamela McClenny and Cheryl Galbreath, both of Spokane; three sisters, Donna Stensgar of Grand Coulee, and Claudia Smith and Marlene Fry, both of Spokane; three grandchildren, eight stepgrandchildren and one greatgrandson.

Florence Manz Spokane

Memorial service for Florence M. Manz, 88, will be at 1 p.m. today, at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home.

Mrs. Manz, who was born in Le Sueur, Minn., died Saturday.

In 1935 she married Edward Manz. He died in 1960.

Mrs. Manz moved to Spokane from Little Falls, Minn., in 1963.

She attended Berkeley Northwestern Bible School in Minnesota and graduated from Spokane Community College School of Nursing in 1964.

Mrs. Manz worked at Cedar Resthaven and was an administrator at Rosewood Manor.

She was a member of Fourth Memorial Church, Pro American and Concerned Women of America.

Survivors include a son, Theodore Manz of Spokane; five daughters, Mary Manteuffel, Esther Rimbey, Elizabeth Wright, Jean Reid and Joan Nordhagen, all of Spokane; a sister, Helen Arndt of Pasadena, Texas; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fourth Memorial Church.

Jane ‘Jean’ Hoskins Springfield, Ore.

Service for Jane “Jean” Findlay Hoskins, 88, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Wallace Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Mullan, Idaho.

Mrs. Hoskins, who was born in Scotland, died Friday. She immigrated to Alberta in 1921 before moving in 1923 to Mullan, where she was a homemaker.

Mrs. Hoskins was a 70-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Osburn, Idaho.

Her husband, Richard “Dick” Hoskins, died in 1982.

Mrs. Hoskins recently moved to Oregon.

Survivors include a daughter, Darla Hoskins of Springfield; two stepdaughters, Pauline Ward of Longview, Wash., and Sharon Howard of Absarokee, Mont.; a stepson, Richard Berkshire of Washington; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Lions Club International.

Elizabeth Coulter Spokane

Graveside service for Elizabeth M. Coulter, 94, will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Coulter, who was born in Wisconsin, died Sunday.

She worked as a doctor’s assistant for many years.

Survivors include a sister, Charlotte Chamberlain of Spokane; and several nieces and nephews.

Richard Montandon Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Richard Joseph Montandon, 81, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries.

Mr. Montandon, who was born in Valleyford, died Thursday.

He grew up and graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School and went on to attend North Idaho Junior College.

Mr. Montandon owned an auto freight business, before starting the first bus line in Coeur d’Alene.

He owned various bus lines and freight lines and operated several mail routes before buying Coast to Coast Hardware.

Mr. Montandon bought Ace Hardware in 1971 and later sold it to his son.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Margaret; a son, John Montandon of Coeur d’Alene; two daughters, Janet Hess of Colbert and Joan Zanetti of Wallace; and seven grandchildren.

Elizabeth Craig Spokane

Visitation for Elizabeth A. Craig, 67, will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Miss Craig, who was lifetime resident of Spokane, died Friday.

She was a homemaker.

Miss Craig was a member of Manito Presbyterian Church and attended Prevocational Training Center.

She is survived by her mother, Ruth Craig, a sister, Joyce Reynolds, and a brother, James Craig, all of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to Manito Presbyterian Church.

George Moe Spokane

Private cremation was held for George Moe, 95. Riplinger Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Moe, who was born in Dunbar, Wis., died Friday.

He worked for Powell Lumber Co., which was later acquired by Pike Lumber Co.

Mr. Moe has been a resident of Spokane for more than 41 years.

Survivors include two brothers, Elmer Moe of Heppner, Ore., and Albert Moe of Spokane; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alma Gould Spokane

Funeral service for Alma Gould, 88, was Monday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gould died Thursday.

She was a resident of Spokane for 80 years.

Mrs. Gould worked as a bookkeeper for the Palace Department Store and Kershaw’s for many years.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Richard Gould; a daughter, Kris Behrendt of Waterloo, Neb.; and two granddaughters.

George Pogreba Spokane

Funeral service for George W. Pogreba, 88, will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at at Riplinger Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Pogreba, who was a lifetime resident, died Saturday.

He owned and operated a service station.

In 1987, he married Leah “Judy” Pogreba.

He was a member of the Christ Gospel Fellowship Church.

Survivors include his wife; three stepdaughters, Ruth Hood, Susan Burch and Terri Winn, all of Spokane; a stepson, David Sherwin of Spokane; two sisters, Maxine Floyd of Daisy, Wash., and Leona Carley of Newport, Wash.; seven step grandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

John ‘Jack’ Condon Spokane

Memorial service for John V. “Jack” Condon, 65, will be at 1 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.

Mr. Condon, who was born in Kankakee, Ill., died Saturday.

He moved to Spokane in 1970 from Southern California.

Mr. Condon served in the Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War.

He worked as an air traffic controller before retiring in 1977.

He was a member of several bowling leagues in the Spokane area.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Patricia; two daughters, Robin Crnich of Sandpoint and Cathy Clegg of Mead; his mother, Ruby Forsberg of Lodi, Calif; a sister, Carol Bauserman of Lodi; and four grandchildren.

Virginia (Lee) McMahill Spokane

No service will be held for Virginia (Lee) McMahill, 86, at her request. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McMahill, who was born in Leavenworth, Wash., died Thursday.

Her family moved from Wilson Creek, Wash., to Spokane 75 years ago.

In 1930, she graduated from Hillyard High School.

For a short time she lived in Priest River, Idaho.

Mrs. McMahill retired from Nalley’s Potato Chip Co. after 25 years and moved to the Valley.

Her husband, Melvin McMahill, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Dana Wrenn of the Spokane Valley; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Virgil Krous Spokane

Funeral service for Virgil Krous, 84, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Krous, who was born in Oakesdale, Wash., died Thursday.

In 1935, he married Elizabeth Ganbetty and was a resident of Spokane for 45 years.

He owned and operated Virgil’s Barber Shop for 42 years.

Mr. Krous was a veteran of the Navy.

His survivors include his wife, Elizabeth ‘Betty’; a brother, Floyd Krous of Mead; and numerous nieces and nephews.
