Lloyd Carr, coach of top-ranked and undefeated Michigan, and Nebraska coach Tom Osborne are among six finalists selected for the Paul “Bear” Bryant Coach of the Year Award.

Others in the running for the award, selected by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association, are Mack Brown, North Carolina; Jim Donnan, Georgia: Joe Paterno, Penn State; and Joe Tiller, Purdue.,

Osborne was treated for an irregular heartbeat after his Cornhuskers beat Iowa State last weekend.

Osborne, who had bypass surgery in 1985, went to a hospital on Sunday, where he received medication.

The 60-year-old Osborne said he did not expect to have to alter his normal routine.
