While making gravy from scratch isn’t really that difficult, it seems to cause an unusual amount of consternation among inexperienced cooks.

The truly desperate might be tempted to run out and buy something in a jar, like the new “slow roast” turkey gravy from Franco-American.

Don’t. The product drew dismal reviews from The Spokesman-Review’s reader food panel, with one panelist comparing it to “tan rubber cement.”

Good gravy? Better learn to make it yourself.
