Manuel ‘Mannie’ Schneidmiller Post Falls

Memorial service for Manuel “Mannie” Schneidmiller, 82, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Community Presbyterian Church in Post Falls. English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Schneidmiller, who was born in Calgary, Alberta, died Thursday.

He graduated from high school in St.

John, Wash., and went on to attend Central University before graduating from Washington State University with a degree in agronomy.

He served with the Marines 2nd Division Amphibious Tractor Battalion in the South Pacific, fighting in Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian and Okinawa. He received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and five battle stars.

Mr. Schneidmiller was a businessman and had interests in Schneidmiller Partners, Schneidmiller Bros. Inc. and Schneidmiller Land Co., and operated diversified grass seed and grain farms near Post Falls, Coeur d’Alene and Liberty Lake.

He worked for 26 years on the Post Falls Highway District and served 20 years on the Post Falls Irrigation District.

Mr. Schneidmiller had also served as director of Northern State Bank and was a member of the Intermountain Grass Growers Association.

Schneidmiller Bros Inc. donated the land for the new Kootenai Medical Center Health Park in Post Falls and in 1990 Mr. Schneidmiller served as the Kootenai County representative at the Idaho centennial celebration in Boise.

He had received the Post Falls Chamber of Commerce Presidential Award and had served as a Festival of Trees host.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Gladys; a son, Gary Schneidmiller of Post Falls; three brothers, Elmer Schneidmiller of Liberty Lake, and Harvey and Virgil Schneidmiller, both of St. John; and a sister, Matilda Totten of Ohio.

Harold ‘Shorty’ Penman Spokane

Memorial service for Harold A. “Shorty” Penman, 79, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Chapel in Fairmount Memorial Park. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Penman, who was born in White Bluff Prairie, Wash., died Saturday.

Mr. Penman married Joyce Chandler in 1940.

He had been a resident of Spokane for 51 years.

Mr. Penman worked for Pacific Northwest Bell from 1939 until his retirement in 1981.

He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and Eagles Aerie 2.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce; a son, Steve Penman of Auburn, Wash; a daughter, Janet Perier of San Jose, Calif.; a sister, Doris Raccaro of Coeur d’Alene; four grandchildren and a great-grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane.

Lily Becker Spokane

Memorial service for Lily A. Becker, 82, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Miss. Becker, who was born Anamoose, N.D., died Sunday.

She worked as a switchboard operator for the Great Northern Railway.

Miss Becker was a resident of Spokane for 40 years and was a member of the Great Northern Railway retiree association.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Herrald Hobbs Spokane

Funeral service for Herrald Vincent Hobbs, 79, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the United Church of Tekoa (Wash). Interment will follow at Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa. Kramer Funeral Home of Tekoa is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hobbs, who was born in Spokane, died Friday.

He graduated from Cheney High School in 1937.

Mr. Hobbs served in the Army during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

In 1942 he married Helen Cook in Coeur d’Alene, and they moved to Durham, N.C. In 1944 they moved to Pullman.

Mr. Hobbs worked for Washington Water Power as a lineman and in 1961 was transferred to Tekoa, where he worked as a serviceman. He retired in 1978.

His wife died in 1975.

Mr. Hobbs was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local Union 77 of Spokane and Washington Water Power Trailblazers.

Survivors include a son, Jerry Hobbs, and a daughter Judy McHargue, both of Tekoa; three stepsisters, Elaine Showalter of Moscow, Idaho, and Lorelle Pederson and Theda Radika, both of Spokane; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Southeastern Washington Home Health and Hospice in Pullman, Tekoa Ambulance Fund or the United Church of Tekoa.

Geretta Gosselin Spokane

Vigil service for Geretta V. Gosselin, 87, will be at 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 5021 N. Nelson. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Gosselin, who was born in Anoka, Minn., died Monday.

She attended schools in Blackduck and Hines, Minn..

In 1935 she married George Gosselin.

Mrs. Gosselin lived in Montana, Wyoming and Colorado before moving to Spokane in 1943.

In 1963 she moved to Portland and then to Tacoma before moving to North Twin Lake in Inchelium, Wash., in 1971. She returned to Spokane in 1997.

Mrs. Gosselin was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America, Eagles Auxiliary, Legion of Mary, and the Altar Society of Our Lady of Fatima and attended the Immaculate Church in Colville, Wash., and St. Patrick’s in Spokane.

Survivors include her husband, George; two sons, Clifford Gosselin of Shelton, Wash., and George Gosselin of Hawaii; a daughter, Vonda Miller of Spokane; three sisters, Beatrice Klinkie, Olive Knutson and Harriette Ebert, all of Minnesota; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Bud Kerr Spokane

Memorial service for Bud Kerr, 60, will be at 1 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South.

Mr. Kerr, who was born in Everett, Wash., died Saturday.

He was a Navy veteran.

Mr. Kerr worked as a brick mason for Spokane Restoration Masonry and various other companies.

He was a resident of Spokane for 44 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Raven Kerr and Malea Kerr, both of Moses Lake; two sisters, Shirley Stanifer and Jackie Snider, both of Spokane; a brother, Bob Kerr of Deer Lodge, Mont.; his stepfather, Joe McTauge of Spokane; a stepdaughter, Donna Reamer of Spokane; a stepson, Ray Lawson of Spokane; and eight grandchildren.

Donald Delzer Garfield, Wash.

Graveside service for Donald E. Delzer, 62, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Garfield Cemetery. Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Delzer, who was born in Spokane, died Friday.

In 1953 he graduated from Cheney High School and later earned a master’s degree in education from Eastern Washington University.

In 1957 he married Mary Ann Harlan in Garfield, where they made their home.

Mr. Delzer was a grade school teacher for the Garfield School District for 32 years, retiring in 1990.

He also worked for his son and daughter at Creations in Space, a Garfield business producing accessories for the disabled.

Mr. Delzer was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the Washington Education Association and National Education Association.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann; two sons, Don Delzer of Tacoma and Mike Delzer of Garfield; a daughter Karen Schatzlein of Pendleton, Ore.; two brothers, Dennis Delzer of Richardson, Texas, and Stanley Delzer of East Wenatchee; and six grandchildren.

Wallace Wright Spokane

Vigil service for Wallace V. Wright, 81, will be at 5 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Wright, who was born in Nelson, British Columbia, died Sunday.

He served in the Air Force for 22 years.

Mr. Wright worked for the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration. He also worked 10 years as a groundskeeper for the St. Vincent de Paul Society and later for Deaconess Medical Center.

He had been a resident of Spokane for 70 years.

His survivors include his wife, Helen; a sister, Lois Delger of Spokane; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick’s School.

Bertha Mader Colfax, Wash.

Graveside funeral service for Bertha Mader, 96, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Colfax Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home of Colfax is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mader, who was born in Dusty, Wash., died Saturday.

In 1922, she married John Mader in Endicott, Wash., and moved to the Mockanema area between Colfax and Endicott. They farmed in the area until 1953, when they moved to Colfax.

Her husband died in 1973.

Mrs. Mader was a member of the Lutheran Church, Order of the Eastern Star of Colfax and the Grange and was a charter member of Mockanema Ladies Club.

Survivors include a son, Jack Mader of Colfax; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Nino Hayashi Spokane

There will be no service for Nino Y. Hayashi, 77, at her request. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of cremation.

Miss Hayashi, who was born in Redmond, Wash., died Friday.

She moved to the Spokane area as an infant and lived here the rest of her life.

Miss Hayashi worked at The Crescent Department Store in the sign shop.

She was a member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a sister, Mara Mihara of Veradale; a niece, a nephew and one great-nephew.

Harold ‘Tommy’ Felts Spokane

No service for Harold ‘Tommy’ Felts, 81, will be held at his request. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Felts, who was born in Pleasantview, Tenn., died Saturday.

He was an Air Force veteran of World War II.

Mr. Felts worked for Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Co. before retiring after 37 years.

He was a member of Millwood Presbyterian Church, Telephone Co. Pioneers, Dahlia Society, Walleye Club and Senior Slickers Bowling League.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Carol (Patz); two sons, Randy Felts of Des Moines, Wash., and Jerry Felts of Spokane; a sister, Madge Fudge of Hendersonville, Tenn.; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Elmer Sisseck Chewelah, Wash.

Funeral service for Elmer Dale Sisseck, 93, will be at 2 p.m. today at Schanzenbach Funeral Home, Chewelah. Interment will follow at Chewelah Memorial Park.

Mr. Sisseck, who was born in Tumwater, Wash., died Sunday.

He had been a resident of the Chewelah and Valley, Wash., area since 1929.

Mr. Sisseck worked for Northwest Magnesite in Chewelah for 37 years before retiring in 1968.

He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Chewelah.

Survivors include two sons, Jim Sisseck of Spokane and Robert Sisseck of Orin, Wash.; a daughter, Margaret Jones of Chewelah; two sisters, Mianda Ganger of Prosser, Wash., and Anna Lawson of Springfield, Ore.; 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Kristy Ruby Mead

Memorial service for Kristy L. Ruby, 39, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Green Bluff Grange. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Ruby, who was a lifetime resident, died Saturday.

She worked for the Mead School District as a cook.

Survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Wardrop of Priest River, Idaho; a son, Bryan Ruby, and a daughter, Kindra Ruby, both of Mead; her grandparents, Mary and Roy Brusseau of Priest River, and Osmond Wardrop of Spokane; three brothers, Terry Wardrop of Sacheen Lake, Wash., Lee Wardrop of Spokane and Mitch Wardrop of Priest River; a sister, Kathy Harty of Priest River; and a granddaughter.

Glen Ives Spokane

Memorial service for Glen G. Ives, 88, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home.

Mr. Ives, who was born in Balfour, N.D., died Saturday.

He served in the Navy during World War II.

Mr. Ives owned and operated Modern Cabinet Works.

He was a member of Spokane Men’s Garden Club, Gladiola Society, Bee Keepers Association and Greater Organ Club.

He was a resident of the Spokane area for 60 years.

Mr. Ives is survived by his wife, Irene; and two nieces, Marian LaBute of Spokane and Rosalie Critchfield of Pasadena Park.

Harold Meisel Spokane

No service was held, for Harold M. Meisel, 85. Cremation arrangements were made with Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mr. Meisel, who was born in Dempster, S.D., died Friday.

He was a resident of Spokane for 25 years.

He worked in construction and retired in 1974.

Mr. Meisel was a member of the Operating Engineers Union.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Violet; a daughter, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
