Goodyear Exits

Goodyear, the dominant tire name in Formula One racing for more than 30 years, is leaving the sport after the 1998 season because of rising costs and new racing regulations.

NASCAR Winston Cup star Bill Elliott, owner and driver of the McDonald’s Ford, underwent surgery to remove plates and screws from his left hip that were placed in the hip in April 1996 following a crash at Talladega Superspeedway.

Michael Schumacher’s manager said the two-time world Formula One champion will stay at Ferrari until his contract expires at the end of the 1999 season.
