Sex Offender Living Near County Line

A convicted sex offender who authorities say is likely to re-offend is living near the Spokane-Lincoln county line.

James Anthony Peterschick, 38, has been convicted of assault, sexual intercourse without consent and communication with a minor for immoral purposes.

In 1989, he was sentenced to 15 years in a Montana prison for attacking a 17-year-old girl and forcing her to have sex, authorities said.

He was released earlier this year and is now living on South Carstens Road in western Spokane County, according to Spokane County Sheriff’s Spokesman Dave Reagan.

High-speed shopper

A woman suspected of stealing groceries from the Safeway store at Mission and Hamilton led police on a high-speed chase at 1 a.m. on Nov. 10.

After police spotted her, the woman sped onto Hamilton, crossing the center line several times, said police spokesman Dick Cottam.

She got on the freeway, traveling east on I-90, weaving over the fog line while reaching speeds of 85 mph before getting off the freeway at the Thor-Freya exit and driving east, he said.

The driver went north over the Keefe Bridge, ran a red light at Trent and continued driving into oncoming lanes to North Foothills Drive. The car spun out of control and hit a camper parked in the 2900 block of North Cincinnati, he said.

The officer pinned the woman against the camper with his car before she briefly got away on foot before being caught again, he said.

Police arrested Lois A. Wint, a transient, for attempting to elude police and for two outstanding warrants. There were no injuries in the pursuit but there was an undetermined amount of property damage.
