Heidi Simmons scored an unassisted goal and shut down the NWAACC’s leading scorer to spark Community Colleges of Spokane to a 4-0 conference soccer tournament semifinal win Thursday over Lower Columbia at Keeney Stadium in Bothell.
Simmons held LC’s Walli Martin, who scored a conference-record 24 goals this season, scoreless.
Simmons, Holly Vanwert and Keri Nichols added second-half goals for CCS.
The Sasquatch will play Tacoma on Saturday at Keeney Stadium in Bothell for the conference championship.
CCS men fall
Edmonds scored a pair of goals in the last 13 minutes to upend Community Colleges of Spokane 2-1 in an NWAACC tournament semifinal match at Keeney Stadium.
Kelly Tifft’s goal 3 minutes into the match put the Sasquatch up 1-0.
The lead held until Edmonds’ Ryan Samack scored at the 67-minute mark. Brian Muehler’s goal with 3 minutes remaining was the game-winner.
CCS had an apparent goal by Herbert Barbosa in the 80th minute nullified by the linesman. The Sasquatch will play Green River on Saturday for third place.
