Jeanne Givens Receives Presidential Appointment

Jeanne Givens, a member of the Coeur d’Alene Tribe and chair of the North Idaho College Board of Trustees, has received a presidential appointment to the Board of Directors of the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, N.M.

Givens, a five-year member of the NIC board, was recently sworn in and attended her first meeting.

NIC has a 40-year tradition of serving as a creative arts program and is a two-year institute serving 555 tribes throughout the country.

Local students recently received freshman honors of entrance recognition at Whitman College in Walla Wall. Students are listed below.

Shawna Williams, daughter of Debe Williams of Hayden, Idaho; and Eric Scharnhorst, son of James and Linda Scharnhorst of Coeur d’Alene.

The honors are presented in recognition of outstanding academic achievement in high school and expectation of college success.

Sandy O’Brien, a 16-year Kootenai Medical Center veteran, has been selected as the KMC employee of the month for November.

O’Brien, an oncology nurse, was cited for dedication to quality patient care, excellent work ethic and being dependable and helpful to co-workers.

Kurt Hafer, Gonzaga Prep student and son of Jack and Ann Hafer of Coeur d’Alene, recently took first place in impromptu speaking and extemporaneous speaking at the Lake City Novice Debate Tournament held in Coeur d’Alene.

The Gonzaga Prep novice team finished first among Inland Northwest schools.
