District 81 Presents Festival Of The Arts

School District 81 high school musicians and artists will unite to present the ninth annual Festival of the Arts at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Opera House.

The evening will begin with an exhibition of artwork in the Opera House lobby. Spokane art students worked with Seattle artist Tim Siciliano to create various works based on a “Mythic Garden” theme.

The concert, featuring band, orchestra and choir performances, will begin at 7:30 p.m. It will combine music with a slide show of the performers and artists taken during the two days of rehearsals. The evening’s grand finale performance of “A Jubilant Song” will include all performers.

The performances will be directed by David Becker, director of bands at Lewis and Clark College in Portland; Robert Culver, professor of music education at the University of Michigan; and Solveig Holmquist, director of choral activities at Western Oregon State University.

The performance is free and open to the public.
