Rezoning Hearing Sets No New Ground

From Staff And Wire Reports

A public hearing before the Kootenai County commissioners played out like a television rerun Wednesday night.

The hearing, over Mort Castleton’s request to rezone his rural property north of Hayden to light industrial, was a repeat performance of a hearing on Oct. 29, which may have lacked proper public notice.

The commissioners requested a legal review of the language used in the conditional development agreement in question. They postponed their decision to approve or deny Castleton’s request until a deliberations meeting Wednesday.

Castleton has defended his plan to build a storage facility for contractors on his land, saying it would be a sound business investment. Neighbors have complained the business would ruin the rural character of the area.
