Headed For Europe? Try The Alps

While the West is a ski mecca with its soft powdery snow, Europe can be an attractive alternative. Charles Leocha, author of “Ski Europe” and “Skiing America” - both excellent guides to the slopes and available in bookstores or by calling 1-800-444-2524 - says skiing the Alps can be a real bargain. Leocha says comparing all the costs of a ski vacation in Europe with one in the West will show it does cost less in the Alps.

Other advantages include greater vertical drops, longer runs, milder weather, great cultural options off the slopes, and, surprisingly, an acceptable travel time to the slopes that may take no longer than heading West in the United States.

An easy and value-packed way to ski in Europe is by purchasing an air/land package. Swissair has a selection of packages to 19 Alpine resorts in four European countries at prices beginning at $875 a person, double occupancy.
