Male Citadel Cadet Resigns After Charge Of Sex In Barracks

A male Citadel cadet has resigned from the state military college after allegations he had a sexual encounter in the barracks with a freshman female cadet, the head of the school says.

Campus rumors about the incident, which allegedly happened sometime around Nov. 2, came to the attention of cadet officers on Thursday, school President John Grinalds said Saturday night.

The male cadet, an upperclassman, chose to resign on Friday rather than respond in writing to a citation of conduct unbecoming a cadet, Grinalds said.

Sexual activity on campus between cadets and fraternization between the classes are prohibited.

The woman, one of only 20 female cadets at the formerly all-male school, was off campus on special leave with her family this weekend, Grinalds said. The investigation will continue when she returns.
