Princess Diana’s Brother ‘Will Be Strenuously Denying’ Adultery

Earl Spencer, the brother of the late Princess Diana, is denying allegations that he committed adultery with 12 women within months of marrying a former model.

The allegations emerged at the start of a hearing to decide whether Spencer’s divorce from his estranged wife, Victoria Lockwood, will take place in Britain or his adopted home of South Africa.

Spencer “will be strenuously denying” the allegations when he speaks at the hearing, Spencer’s aide said Tuesday, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Lockwood’s lawyer, Jeremy Gauntlett, said he could reveal more about Spencer’s infidelity. He said the allegations already mentioned were “merely a summary.”

The legal teams of both parties spend the second day of proceedings Tuesday in Cape Town’s High Court questioning a British family lawyer, Jeremy Posnansky, about the way divorce cases are held in Britain.

Reports of Spencer’s adultery made headlines Tuesday in Britain’s tabloids - the same newspapers Spencer criticized at Diana’s funeral in September for their dogged pursuit of his sister.

“The 12 Girls of Charlie Althrob,” blared the Star, a London tabloid, referring to the Spencer family estate of Althorp.

Spencer, 33, wants the divorce case to be settled in South Africa; Lockwood, 32, wants it to be held in Britain.
