Teenager Charged With Taking Minivan

Two teenagers were arrested late Monday after one was caught leaving a car dealership with a stolen minivan.

Rodney D. Schaffer, 18, and a 16-year-old boy were arrested on a charge of grand theft auto. Schaffer also was booked into the Kootenai County Jail on charges of eluding police, possession of burglary tools and failure to purchase a drivers license.

Police chased Schaffer briefly after he allegedly drove the stolen minivan away from Knudtsen Chevrolet. Schaffer was arrested when he stopped the car and tried to flee on foot, according to a police report.

The 1986 Dodge Colt Vista minivan had been stolen from Opportunity Motors on North Fourth Street. Police also recovered a 1996 Dodge Neon that had been stolen from Knudtsen Chevrolet.
