EV Senior Attends Usc’s Resident Honors Program

Sarah Emami, a senior at East Valley High School, was one of 60 students nationwide selected to participate in the Resident Honors Program at the University of Southern California.

The program allows high school juniors to get a head start on their college career. Emami is now attending classes at USC while satisfying requirements to graduate next spring from East Valley.

She received a four-year Presidential Scholarship from USC, valued at more than $40,000.

At East Valley, she earned academic, debate and tennis letters. She is the daughter of Charisse Mathes, Veradale, and Massoud Emami, Spokane.

Kyle Henneberry received a bachelor of science degree last spring from Northwestern University’s Robert R. McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science in Evanston, Ill.

Henneberry was a member of Golden Key, Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Societies, a National Collegiate Engineering Award winner and was listed in the Biomedical Engineering Honors Program.

He is the son of Michael and Cathryn Henneberry and a Ferris High School graduate.

Nycole Destefano and Angie Johnson, both of Spokane, received Alumni Association Scholarships from St. Martin College in Lacey, Wash., for academic excellence and activities and commitment on campus and in the community.

Maura Shuttleworth and Michael Westbrock were named to the spring semester dean’s list at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn.

Shuttleworth is the daughter of Paul and Mary Shuttleworth, Moses Lake; Westbrock is the son of James E. Westbrock, Spokane.

Liane Praza, Spokane, received a bachelor of science degree from Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind., earning academic honors for spring semester.

Aaron Elmer, Pullman, received a masters of science degree in biology from the University of Central Oklahoma, Edmond, Okla.

Jennifer Simonson, Ritzville, Wash., received a $1,000 scholarship from The National Future Farmers of America. She is the daughter of Paul and Carol Simonson.

Lori Olson Johnson graduated cum laude from Pacific Lutheran University last August with a BS in nursing.

She is the daughter of Allen and Sharon Olson, Clayton, Wash.

Three area students were graduated last spring from Cornell University in Ithica, N.Y.

The students, their hometowns and degrees are:

Jennifer DeLong, Ephrata, Wash., BS; Paula Gerber, Spokane, BA; and Kenn Scott, Pullman, BS.

Dan McBride received a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Stanford Law School last spring, and was awarded membership in the Order of the Coif, a national law honor society, for finishing in the top 10 percent of his class.

McBride, a 1983 graduate of North Central High School, is the son of Donald and Barbara McBride.
