Ski Resort Expansion Approved

Andrwood Inc.’s master plan to expand Pomerelle Ski Resort has been approved by Sawtooth National Forest Supervisor Bill LeVere.

That means Woody Anderson’s plans to expand his Howell Canyon resort onto another 65 acres of public land are one step closer to reality.

But his envisioned additional lodge, more ski lifts and more runs now must go through a 45-day appeal period.

“During this time anybody has the freedom to appeal if they believe our decision was flawed,” District Ranger Pete Peterson said. “This is just another step in the process.”

Peterson said the regional forester would review LeVere’s decision if it is appealed.

LeVere’s decision said there is general support for the expansion among residents and resort patrons. The notice also said the project would have minimal impact to the environment.

The only problem identified in the first proposal submitted by Andrwood, Peterson said, was the use of water from Howell Creek during a critical time in fall.

The agency suggests taking water earlier and storing it for the ski season. The approval also extends Anderson’s permit for another 25 years.
