Inmate Takes Wing During Turkey Dinner

An inmate at the Geiger Corrections Center is thankful to be out of the center. But he’s not supposed to be.

David A. Barton, 37, escaped from the correctional facility during Thanksgiving dinner. Officials at the center aren’t sure how he escaped.

Barton was jailed for second-degree burglary, drug possession and driving with a suspended license. Officials do not consider him to be dangerous.

Barton has been in the news often.

Last month he was bitten on the leg by a police dog as he tried to hide in some bushes in an attempt to elude sheriff’s deputies in the Spokane Valley. Barton got caught trying to steal items out of an unlocked garage.

In July of 1995, he led a state trooper on a high-speed chase near Liberty Lake. After reaching speeds past 100 miles per hour, Barton ditched the car and attempted to flee on foot before being captured.

And in May of 1995, Barton was busted for trying to use a stolen credit card at The Jackpot in the Valley.
