Associated Press

A man was shot to death when he and two others reportedly tried to rob a family at their home here, the Yakima County sheriff’s office said.

The dead man was identified Thursday as Felipe Cuevas Mendoza, 32, hometown unavailable.

The shooting occurred about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday after three men showed up at the home of Manuel Jimenez, 40, purportedly to buy a goat, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Instead, at least two of the men displayed handguns and ordered Jimenez into the house, the release said. Three other family members were home at the time.

One family member jumped one of the intruders, and during the ensuing struggle Jimenez got a handgun from another room and shot one of the intruders, the release said.

The two other intruders fled.

No arrests were reported.
