Sixth Septuplet Upgraded To Fair Condition

Associated Press

Another of the Iowa septuplets was removed from a breathing machine Thursday, leaving just one in serious condition.

Alexis McCaughey was upgraded to fair condition as soon as she began to breathe on her own, an Iowa Methodist Medical Center spokeswoman said.

Nathan was the only sibling still in serious condition. He remained on a ventilator and was being fed intravenously.

The other children are being fed by a tiny tube leading through the nose. None is able to suck.

Specialists have said that removing intravenous lines is important because it removes a possible source of infection.
