Markets Recoup Some Lost Ground
Financial markets closed out a holiday-shortened week with modest gains Friday. The Dow Jones industrial average rose more than 28 points, but was off nearly 58 points for the week.
In economic reports this week:
The Conference Board said its consumer confidence index rose to 128.3 in November, the third-highest reading this year.
Sales of existing homes climbed in October for the third straight month, rising 2.1 percent to a record annual rate of 4.40 million.
The Commerce Department reported that the gross domestic product grew at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 3.3 percent in the third quarter, matching the second-quarter pace.
